I like the microbrewery/restaurant concept and Blue Star Brewing Co brings a sample of this to San Antonio.  There doesn’t seem to be many microbreweries around here and it’s nice to have this option.

I tried a few of their brews and I couldn’t settle on any one of them.  The beers were all harsh, bitter, and some had flavors that I really didn’t care for (ie. oaky flavors or smokey flavors).  I don’t know who the brewmaster is, but hopefully he gets some better recipes.

I didn’t try their menu, but the food looked decent.  It’s mainly sandwiches and burgers.  I’ll be back to try the fish and chips.

MK Davis is a great restaurant to go unwind at after work.  It’s near the downtown area and gets packed during lunch and dinner hours, so do expect that.

They’ve got some really good nachos and gigantic beers at excellent prices.  They don’t have a huge selection of beers to choose from, but with these prices, who cares!

Their food consists of primarily Mexican dishes such as enchiladas, tacos, and those that include steak among others.  The food is decent and again, the price is right.

The service is good especially considering that the place is always packed.  It’s just a good, dim-lit, relaxing, but kind-of-loud, down-home, beer-drinking, food-gobbling, glutton’s kind of place.  :)

This place IS San Antonio.

I’ve eaten at a Hard Rock Cafe before, a long while back, and since have always been extremely hesitant to give Hard Rock Cafe a nod.   Known primarily as a tourist restaurant, I’d always had the inclination that the food would be sub-par because it was just a major trap where tourists can get a T-Shirt and Shot Glasses that say you were in Hollywood, Chicago, San Antonio, etc.

Putting these thoughts aside, I decided to check out Hard Rock Cafe – San Antonio.  I was looking for a decent meal at a reasonable price; you know, the type of restaurants that have a variety on their menu and that typically have the same price range of restaurants like Chili’s, Applebee’s, Hooter’s, etc.

Hard Rock Cafe was just like the aforementioned restaurants.  But, I thought I would note that I was impressed with a specific item on their menu, the Creole Chicken Sandwich.  I didn’t know what to expect.  Actually, I expected some sort of gimmicky, blackened chicken burger, but what came out was actually pretty good.  It had a creole sauce that contained chunks of veggies and andouille sausage.  The combination of the sauce, andouille and blackened chicken was unexpected.  It was a really good sandwich and certainly very different than what any of the other burger places on the Riverwalk offer.

Now that they’ve hooked me in a little bit, you might find me here on occasion, even if I don’t ever buy a Hard Rock Cafe T-Shirt.  Perhaps I’ll try something else next time, but I know there’s always the different, tasty, not-so-expensive, Creole Chicken Sandwich at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Wow, I was impressed with the beer selection this place has!  They had a labyrinth of beers on tap!  The menu of beers went on and on.

I had no idea where to even begin choosing a beer.  They have daily beer specials which helped nudge me in some sort of direction.  The special of the night was “Texas” beers which was perfect as I was visiting from Ventura, CA.  I grew up and lived in Texas, but never had any idea that there were so many beers from there!

They also apparently have food.  We tried a couple of appetizers.  Some sort of Guinness Cheese Soup and some fries.  These were nothing to rave about, but did I mention the beer?  The beer options alone gave this place an extra star in my book.

The waitresses in short-short kilt-like skirts was interesting, though I never did understand the why they were dressed like that.
