I was quite surprised with Fish City Grill. Their lame logo makes the place seem like some questionable establishment. I suppose the ever referred to cliche “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” fits in really well here.
It all started with a pit stop to the grocery store in the next building over. I was with a friend when we saw the boring logo and we wondered what this place was like. My friend and I said, “To hell with it. Lets try it.” And, so we did.
Walking in, the place was a lot more comforting than the bland building and logo on the outside. They had a variety of booths and tables and a bar lined up against the wall. What we didn’t realize before we walked in was that it is a Cajun restaurant. You couldn’t get that idea from the name or the logo, but we were surpised and happy with this style of food.
At a glance, the menu appeared expensive, but we quickly figured out that the more expensive items were platters meant for 2 or 3 people to share. The rest of the menu was below the price I would have expected to be paying. The menu consisted of gumbo, salads, oyster nachos, crab cakes, blackened/grilled/fried catfish, blackened/grilled chicken, po boy sandwiches and red beans and rice to name a few.
I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich which came with the options of coleslaw or fries. My friend ordered the lunch special fried catfish and it came with french bread and red beans and rice. I thought my sandwich was mediocre, but what do you expect from an everyday blackened chicken sandwich? My friend, on the other hand seemed fairly impressed.
Throughout my meal, I couldn’t help but look at the menu and think, “I’ll have to come back and try that, that, that and that.” So, will I be back? Definitely. It’s a good restaurant at a good price. I’m glad we risked this place albeit their yawn of a logo.
