I’d seen HB’s Deli before and was wondering what the food was like, so I thought I’d venture in. Upon entry, the restaurant looked really promising. I thought perhaps I’d finally found a really good deli downtown.
Meow, I can only comment on the one thing I had, so do take this 2 star review lightly. I’ll have to go back and try something else to get a better feel for it. I ordered a Pastrami Reuben and I’ve yet to find a place in San Antonio that gets it done the way I like it. HB’s Deli didn’t get it right either. First, If you’re into Boar’s Head meats, then perhaps this is the place for you, but I don’t care for Boar’s Head. Second, the rye bread they put the reuben on wasn’t grilled long enough. It was like placing all the ingredients on soft bread which made for a soggy, disappointing sandwich.
They have a fairly extensive menu offering breakfast tacos, bagels and muffins between 7-11AM. Between 11AM and 1:45PM, they have salads, homemade soups, hot dogs, sandwiches/hoagies. I won’t rush back, but I’ll have to return to try the soup and salad or a hoagie. Perhaps one of these things will bump up my rating.

Sorry about the ‘Meow’ in the second paragraph. I had to, just had to make reference to ‘Super Troopers’ for no real reason other than to say ‘Meow.’
